Golconda Fort

Place: Golconda Fort, Hyderabad, India

Time of our visit: 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm

Tour guide rate: unofficial guide – 200 Rs (since he was an old man, we didn’t bargain with him much) You will get lot of guides in the place where you get the entrance tickets. Camera’s allowed.

Notes: You can go till the top of the fort (almost 700+ stairs) but since we had the Zoo earlier in the morning, we were too tired to walk that far. So we stuck to the plains. Heard that the view from there is very good. So plan accordingly for both stamina and time. The light and sound show starts at 6.30 pm and since we already got the history of that place from the guide, we did not feel the need to pay another 100 Rs per head (including Rs 75 for a kid) for the show and it would anyways be very late for us to return back. Also due to the recent bomb attacks in Hyderabad, there was a speculation of the show being cancelled. Even when we were there, there was a bomb squad team doing their usual checks around.

If you have been to Chichen Itza (I was there in May 2011) and heard about the amazing archaeology and astronomical brilliance of Mayans, then you will be amazed how much the details I heard there, holds good in Golconda Fort too. Should I believe now in what was said in “Chariots of Gods” ? If I had been to Golconda Fort first, then I would have argued a little bit with the guide in Chichen Itza about a few things when they claimed that it was Mayans who got it right first 🙂
