That smile…that beautiful smile…

That was so sweet. Sweeter than the small piece of chocolate cake with pieces of raisin and walnut I had just before. And nothing, I repeat, nothing beats chocolate, at least not for me. The kind of immense relief and pleasure that I got was equal to my chocorgasmic pleasure. How can you not smile at that. How can you not have your body covered in goosebumps. How can you not feel the high. How can you not give a fist bump even if it is only to your other hand. What am I talking about?

If you haven’t seen the latest Game of Thrones episode, you wouldn’t know about it. So please don’t proceed reading this post. But I think by now you might have got a feeling of what must have happened 😉 I wasn’t try to trick you, honestly. It is so difficult for me to not express my happiness. That is all 😛

I am not a violent person in real life, unless if I have to be defensive or protective and if I were in that mode, you better be afraid, very afraid. But it is so pleasing to see justice served even if it is only on the reel life. I think today might be one of those rare days where I will wear a smile on my face on a Monday 😯 and that is saying something. Now, off to my grinding work which doesn’t seem so bad after all.

Already ???

If you are a Game of Thrones fan and haven’t neither seen the series yet nor read the books and are planning to, then this post isn’t for you. I am gonna try and contain myself and not give away any major spoilers, but I can’t guarantee it.

Its already over 😦 The season with 10 episodes is already done. Oh My God!!! What a roller coaster ride. I am still not sure how I feel about the various deviations or rather should I say major deviations from the book. I think I am not too happy about it, but kind of accept it, because that is all I can do now! (I know I am trying to convince myself here, especially now that I have seen all the episodes). The last episode made me empty a big tub of icecream even before I could stop myself or even realize what I was doing. I sort of expected a few of the twists in the last episode and certainly did expect the end scene to be exactly the one that was shown, but that doesn’t mean it felt nice to see it. It still made me cringe in horror. The only other surprise that made me cringe was when Stannis the Mannis did what he did and became the most unpopular guy, even beating Ramsay Bolton in the race. A lot of surprise elements in the series which sort of leads the story astray from the books, especially the White Walkers scene (whoa!!! that was one hell of a scene yeah?). Now that we know a couple of characters are dead , who weren’t dead yet in the book, how is the story gonna proceed….and I have to wait for almost another year now! Dammit!!! I seriously hope the book comes out before that because there is a lot of catching up to do. I really admire how they actually condense the whole story into 10 episodes trying to bring all that matters into the series, considering the number of subplots and characters involved, but still feels bad to see your small and favorite characters not being included. My best scene of the whole series is where Jorah and Tyrion sit and talk after their attack. That was one hell of a place and the photography was so amazing. I kept rewinding to that scene just to take in that sunset. It was soooo awesome. The final episode does win the most gruesome episode award among all the episodes. People dropped dead like flies, literally. Someone even tweeted that this episode had more deaths than the (in)famous Red Wedding 🙂 But at least it ended where the books ended. A small consolation if any.

I think I did manage to not add any spoilers, hopefully. But if I did, well, I did warn ya’. Now the wait begins. But at least there will be lot of posts discussing and dissecting the season. So I will get my GoT fix 😉

The cleanest version of them all

Spoiler Alert: If you haven’t watched all the four seasons of GoT or read all the books, and you are planning to, then you might probably want to skip the rest of this post.

Yesterday was the day when Game of Thrones Season 5 was aired on TV in India. I had to enable HBO Defined channel by paying additional amount for it. But then hey… I get to watch GoT when its aired right. I am not going into the story line or anything here. So you can relax. Now after having gone through all that trouble, and after watching the first episode, I am not sure anymore. May be I should have waited until the DVD came out later ? It was almost a 45 min episode. I think it is almost a 60 min episode otherwise right. As usual, there were cuts. Obviously the double B’s don’t get shown in Indian TV. But have to say that those were edited pretty well, you wont even realize it. But then after watching four seasons you pretty well know where they might have been strategically placed. Yes, at all important scenes when they discuss something pretty important. But since I have already enabled the channel, I might as well watch them even if it is the most clean version of all 🙂 I am more interested in the story aren’t I ?

So for people who haven’t yet started watching the current series yet, and wants a recap of who is where in the series, here is a YouTube video which does just that. It is pretty funny too.

Also I found this interesting video titled ‘Dumb Ways to Die (Game of Thrones Edition)’ Now that really piqued my curiosity. And I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the way they have shown the deaths and hey, the song is also too cool. Very nursery rhyme-ish but then that is what makes it very cute.

Good night y’all

imaginary vs the reel

Getting sick in the middle of the week has its own advantages I say. First, I got to work from home (even though one day I was too sick to work after half a day but still managed to complete the work) and second, whenever I went to take some rest I managed to watch some of the GoT episodes and voila! I completed watching the first season. I had watched almost 5 episodes last Sunday, so only five were left to watch over the week. Since I knew the story, some episodes were easier to watch and of course I wasn’t surprised by anything here, because it almost followed the book to the last word. It was a very neat adaptation in that aspect. No story here and so no spoilers. Just some of my thoughts about the first season. For me it was more of associating or even comparing the faces in the TV series to the faces I had imagined while reading them. I had seen the first episode of the first season sometime back (it was a long time back infact), so I knew some of the characters who appeared in the first season (not all, just some like Ned, Tyrion, Bran , Dany, Khal Drogo). The ones I knew were already there in my imagination while I was reading the book. But the rest , now that I have read about them in the span of 5 books this is what I felt.

Cersei wasn’t exactly the way I had imagined her in the book. I felt that she was too smug for that character and seemed too disinterested. The picture of her in my mind was a little more cunning and vile with a wicked smile.

Jofferey, I hated that character more and more as I saw this actor playing it. It was a very good choice of cast in the TV series. I wanted to say something here, but since I already said no spoilers I am keeping quiet.

Sansa Stark, one of the characters I didn’t like and yes, while reading she reminded me of Bella a lot from the Twilight series. But again the choice of the cast was good because this girl, no offense dear, really did look stupid enough (courtesy: her acting 😉 ) with all that star in her eyes and the teen drama and all.

I also liked Catelyn in the TV series. She is one who matched my imaginative Catelyn.

Jaime: Now is it just me or did anyone else find a similarity between this actor and the ‘Prince Charming‘ in Shrek 2 ? He reminded me of him so much. I was wondering why he felt very familiar. To be honest, he wasn’t as good looking as it was described in the book and my imaginative Jaime was a little bit better than him. At least it wasn’t as disastrous a portrayal as Edward in Twilight by Robert Pattinson. Thank God for small miracles. Since I am not a big fan of Jaime as such, he is OK.

Another interesting cast was Littlefinger. Now that guy really looked cunning (and looked good too). And way better than how I had imagined.

Varys: I thought Varys was supposed to be a little lithe and lean because he keeps crawling everywhere and all and was a little surprised to see the casting here.

Arya Stark: Perfect and matched my imagination.

The rest were all OK. It was like remembering back the important points in the book again. They could have done without too much sex though, at least in some place, even though the book is full of it and violence too. For e.g. the scene where Littlefinger is talking about his lost love, I know he needed a opening to reveal a little about himself, but I wouldn’t have imagined a scene as one that was shown.

Will have to start the second season next week sometime.

Awww man!!! WTH!

Spoiler Alert

Finally, I completed the 5th book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series:  Dance of the Dragons just an hour ago and I am still wondering what the hell happened. Actually the problem is that too many things happened in this book and I am yet to come to terms and I am 😡

Why? Why does he have to do that to Jon Snow? While reading I did feel that it was getting too good to be true. It’s GRRM’s fault that I am becoming more cynical. I even asked my friend if Jon Snow is going to be alive till the end. The only answer I ever get from him was ‘Just read! Why do you even ask I don’t know!’ And today when I finished that chapter where at the end Jon lay down in the cold with multiple stab bleeding and calling Ghost,  this is what happened. img4

And there was Dany whose fate was dangling but at least there was a closure to that. Poor Poor Quentyn and what the hell was he thinking… dragons are not dolls dear. And…..Reek oops Theon, that effing idiot. I don’t even know what to think. Did Bran forgive him when he saw him through that tree ? Is his penance done ? What is going to happen to Arya now ? Aegon again ! Whoa that was a BIG surprise actually. I hope he has some sense to follow Jon Connington. I should say I was a little happy when Cersei had to accept her sins and confess. But sad for losing Jaime. Finally , finally when I thought I would never hear about him, there comes Varys finally doing one thing I didn’t expect him to do. Man! too many plots, too many treacheries, too many surprises. My head is spinning.

Now I have to start watching the series.
