SoCS: Knot again!

The first thing that came to my mind when I read the word knot was the quote I had earlier posted, which tells the meaning of the word marry or even the expression ‘tying the knot‘.

You may have heard the word ‘marry’ as a nautical term. It refers to the sailors’ practice of matching two ropes together to give them greater strength as one.

In my language, when they find a person too roguish in nature, they say that (and I translate it to the best of my ability) it is time for that person to have a nose ring attached. Its another way of saying that they should be married off. It does not mean that they should be tied to a pole 🙂 Nose rings in animals are used to control them and I have no idea how marriage is viewed as a way to control one’s character. If a person doesn’t want to be changed, all efforts including a marriage comes to  naught and the only side effect of that kind of marriage would be that you end up putting another person’s life in trouble too.

SoCS: I am an Albatraoz

I really need to share this. So, here is a crazy song I heard the other day. The lyrics actually don’t make much sense at all. Its … I don’t even know what to say about it. Kiddish ? But then the beats of the song is so cool.  Total EDM (Electronic Dance Music). I couldn’t help shake my whole body to the beats. I love the piano bits especially. And then I got a little curious about the word Albatraoz. We know that albatross is a sea bird, but what the hell is albatraoz. The first hit in Google was for the Urban Dictionary link. If you haven’t seen the descriptions/definitions of a word in Urban Dictionary, you should check it out. Total crazy , insane stuff out there. So here is the top definition for an albatraoz.

to be an albatraoz is to be a strong woman, …..

Really? I did leave out the other part of the definition. But actually, it is nothing but the name of the band. Since I was already there, I checked out a few more and here are their top definitions 😉

I  – A letter Apple really seems to enjoy putting in front of every single product they sell.

Eye – If you need help figuring this out you need help.

Aye – Scottish way of saying yes.

Someone did not have a snarky definition for ‘aye’ huh ?

SoCS: Let it go!

One of our close friend got obsessed with the song ‘Let it go‘ so much that he would sing those three words every freaking time for every freaking thing. If we complained about traffic while in the car or about a bad driver , he simply would start singing ‘Let it go, Let it go, …’. That was just one incident. In fact we used to hear those three letter words almost 10-15 times per day. It almost made us dislike that song not to mention the annoyance when he sings it off key. We would literally beg him to not do that but that is when he would again say, ‘let it go, let it go, my songs never bothered you anyway’. We tried ignoring him, but to no effect. So when we found the ‘Honest Trailer’ version of the movie (if you haven’t seen those, you should, they are so funny 🙂 ) we made him watch it and he liked it. So we sort of convinced him to replace those three little words with the new three letter words, ‘Get it out’. Phew!

SoCS: Friends and Send off

When I saw the prompt, I was like ‘ah!!! I just wrote such a big letter to a very close friend, who left us to settle down in another country’. But since that is quite a lengthy one, I didn’t want to re-post it again. Two years ago, I sent off another close friend of mine. I wonder who is next. At this rate, I won’t have anyone to send me off 😥 , if it comes to that. But since I am a glass half full person, I like to  think that I will have enough friends to receive me, even if I don’t have anyone sending me off  and that will be too cool and awesome. Fingers crossed. I don’t make friends that easily, but when I do, well, they are stuck with me 🙂 That is the case with blogging world too. I have made only a very few friends here , to be honest, but I do care about them deeply. Jane Austen conveys it much better in Northanger Abbey : “There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.”And that is all I have got to say 🙂

Interstellar – Not quite up there

Interstellar – It’s a Christopher Nolan movie, so how can I miss watching it. Except for Transcendence, I have watched all his movies. But the only sad part for Interstellar was that we didn’t get tickets in an IMAX. So had to watch in a normal theater with some light disturbances across the screen whenever someone moved in and out of the room. I am not going into the story or any spoiler here (even though there isn’t any except for the last one part where it was a Aha! moment). Having watched Gravity (again not in IMAX) let me start first with what I felt as soon as I watched the movie. I thought I should have watched it in IMAX to see if it made the same impact , visually I mean, as Gravity made on me even in spite of me watching it in the small screen. Upfront, because of the same space theme and all, I did compare the visual effects to Gravity and so far Gravity won. My friend suggested that we should watch it in IMAX just to be sure 🙂 but let me come back to that when that actually happens. No doubt that the visual effects for this was very good for the topic and the depth that this movie had, but still.

One more thing that made me compare to Gravity was, the emotional impact. With Gravity, I had tears at the end when she makes it. I rooted for her through out, it was like a personal thing. Well, this one didn’t quite make there with that. There was one scene where they are trying to get control of the spacecraft back which was quite intense, and the whole theater was waiting with unabated breath, but I would say it was mostly due to the sound effects more than the actual visuals. Comic relief and the one liners by TARS , the robot, was very funny and cheeky. I should also accept that the whole five dimensional thing details, I quite didn’t get it. Granted that I am not very smart but I was able to follow Inception without any problem. Even Gravity was understandable to a large extent. Here I got lost in the intricate details and given that I am not a fan of sci-fi or rather the time-space related stuff (except for the movies like ‘Back to the Future’ – fyi: I love that series) I had struggle grasping the concept. And the whole love concept in between their 3/4/5 dimensional space talk was a little scary actually. There is no love angle here, which was good in spite of all those talk, if you skip the parental love that is. And you know what, I clapped so hard when I saw Matt Damon, and I may or may not have done a little jump in my seat. Man, come on, I never knew that guy was there in that movie. OK, I didn’t read anything about the movie until I saw it because it could spoil the surprise, but Matt Damon!. Just for moments like these, I should learn to whistle. And Michael Caine got the same welcome from my friends and myself. That man deserves a good welcome. Matthew McConaughey, he is in every single frame, if not his daughter is there. But I think I am glad to see him in these kind of roles, rather than the ones like ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 days’. Jessica Chastin , the Zero Dark Thirty woman (that is how I remember her) and Mackenzie Foy, the Renesmee girl from the Twilight Series, did very good too as did Anne Hathaway. Acting wise every single one did their job well. I have to say that when I heard that the daughter’s name was Murphy and she complains to her dad that he should have named her something else, I remember a blogger’s comment in my other post and made me smile :).

No doubt. Story wise, it was good. But as an end result, there was something missing. Something that made me sit at the end of Inception to wonder what was I supposed to be even thinking now because it was too much to consume that I had to go back to the movie to understand the connecting bits again. Something that made me cry and my heart almost ached for that woman to finally make it on her own in Gravity. Something that made me sit back in shock and surprise and wonder in The Prestige. Everything was there, but then something definitely was missing to make me remember this movie like the rest. And I don’t know what it is.
