Second time, Second day

I am here in London, my second visit this year and guess what. I am going to watch the movie Kabali (Tamil) (it is a big deal for Rajnikanth fans all over) the second day of its release here in London. Got it booked in Boleyn Cinemas. Yes, it will be today, the saturday, the 23rd. My sister who is a very huge fan of his was a bit upset that she couldn’t see the first day first show. But thankfully they got tickets in my home town for the second day and both my siblings and their families would have seen it before I get to the theater. I have heard mixed reviews but nothing beats the excitement to see my favorite movie star in a pucca masala entertainment movie. I am also taking my friend (non-Indian) to this movie and hope that there are subtitles for him to follow. He knows more about Bollywood movies than me. But this will be first Tamil movie. I am really excited.

Harry Potter Walking Tour

During my week long vacation in London, the first thing that we did was to do that Harry Potter Walking tour that I had missed three years ago.
We took Muggle Tours walking tour and our guide was Mr. Lockhart (I swear that it is his true name) who was amazing and hilarious. I was hoping that my friend who is currently in his 6th book might be spared from any spoilers. I did spoil Dumbledore’s death for him long ago. But thankfully it was OK. We went through some of the spots where the movie was shot and the guide told us so many tidbits and inside information not just about Harry Potter but also about London and the places we were going. It also included a Tube journey from London Bridge to West Minister and the whole tour was about 2.5 hours. It was so much fun. We had some quizzes on the way. If you are a HP fan, you should take at least one of these just for fun of going out and about where the movie was shot.

Explorium

Today was a busy day. I took my niece to a newly opened Girias Children’s Explorium here in Bangalore. The name sounds like the movie title Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, a movie I love. It had a combination of science and fun.  Definitely not as big as the Exploratorium I visited in SFO. But still pretty impressive given the limited space. This was sort of a test run for when my other niece and nephew arrive here in a week. My niece loved this place and was reluctant to leave even after 2 hours. I was the one who was tired even though I didn’t do anything except take photographs and keep an eye on her.

As long as they enjoy it

I am in for a surprise every time I visit my brother. My first niece always has some or the other movie that she wants to see and if she knows that I am visiting, she would wait for me to take her to that movie. Last time it was a stupid Tamil horror movie (the one genre I usually avoid watching) which I avoided, thanks to my brother who watched with her. But this time, it is ‘The Jungle Book‘. I remember watching that series when I was a kid. Especially the song ‘jungle jungle baat chali hai‘ (in Hindi) which was a huge hit. Now the same song is used in the recent movie too, which is good. But I am going to be watching the Tamil dubbed version of the movie and I am not a big fan of dubbed movies. I always get a little unsettled with the lip un-sync (is that even a word?). But they (nieces and nephew) wouldn’t understand it in any other language other than in their mother tongue. So Tamil dubbed version it is, as long as they enjoy the movie and are happy watching it. I might update the post later after watching the Matinee show with them 🙂

Update after the movie :
I enjoyed it, in spite of it being in Tamil. Nieces were scared because of it being 3D. Nephew enjoyed it. Overall it is a very good movie. Worth watching it for the pleasure of watching a very good animation.

Wanna visit Gotham?

For the record, my favorite superhero is Batman. So I was so excited to see this advertisement. Even though it is for the promotion of the upcoming film (which I am not sure if I will be seeing it, but then who knows!) it is still so amazing. Come on, why not have a city with that name heh? It would be so cool. Imagine having a set built like Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Castle, where you can go and see the city in its all glory. I am not sure if they already have one somewhere. But until then, enjoy the promotion 🙂
