Star of the show

The theme for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday is

I’ve decided that the theme for this week is all about love. You know that whole saying, “They’re playing our song…”? Well this week, we are posting songs that make us think of those we love. It doesn’t have to be a lover, husband or boyfriend. It can be a best friend, or a sibling or a child. Just post a song that makes you think of someone you love.

I was going through my list of songs in my head when this song popped out along with an image of my second niece. She is such a badass when it comes to real life. Doesn’t take shit from anyone and keeps everyone on their toes. It is true that we both end up fighting (literally, fists and all) with each other everytime we are together for more than an hour but it is so much fun to rile her up. She packs a lot of punch in that short form of hers. She is 3.7 years but behaves very mature in some ways. And literally childish in others. Well that is expected since she is a child 🙂 But she does make me forget that most of the time. She takes the role of the protector of the kids in my family even though she is the youngest of the lot. But runs screaming like a banshee once she sees a dog nearby. 🙄 She is such an adorable kid and I love her so much. She also does some very cool moves by watching others perform. Sometimes I just go about doing my Zumba moves and she copies them so perfectly.
So no wonder that this song reminds me of her. I wish she would perform for this song one day in her school (she did a punjabi number with her classmates last year for the annual day function)

Lyrics from Metro Lyrics

GIRLZ
Bring on the lights set the stage
In the mood to celebrate
We’ll stick together through whatever hand in hand

Let’s live it up
Let’s live it up, oh

Don’t need no boys to tell us no
We refuse to be controlled
We’re shooting stars oh do you see us glow
We’ll do what we want
Whatever we want, oh yeah

Be who we are that’s the motto
Doing our thing like uh oh
Showin’ what we got like we won the lotto, ha!

GIRLS!
Come on turn it up and sing along
Ooooh!
We march to the beat of our own drums
Cos tonight we’re standing out
Like diamonds in the crowd
So let’s get loud
Oh Oh Oh
ooooooohh Girls!
ooooooohh Girls!
ooooooohh Girls!
ooooooohh Girls!

Got no fear walk the walk
Flip your hair back n forth
Be the centre of attention let ’em know
You’re the star of the show
Star of the show
Lookin’ good steppin’ out
No you wont break us down
Remember that you’re always beautiful
You got it all, you,you got it all
You got it all, you,you got it all

Be who we are that’s the motto
Doing our thing like uh oh
Showin’ what we got like we won the lotto, ha!

GIRLS!
Come on turn it up and sing along like
Ooooh!
We march to the beat of our own drum
Cos Tonight we’re standing out
Like diamonds in the crowd
So lets get loud
Oh Oh Oh
ooooooohh Girls!
ooooooohh Girls!
ooooooohh Girls!
ooooooohh Girls!

Oh, You know that you can’t do no wrong
When you feel like dancing with us
You know you are, you know you are
Hey! hey! hey!

GIRLS!
Come on turn it up and sing along
Ooooh!
We march to the beat of our own drums
Cos Tonight we’re standing out
Like diamonds in the crowd
So lets get loud
Oh Oh Oh
ooooooohh Girls!
ooooooohh Girls!
ooooooohh Girls!
ooooooohh Girls!

Zoo Park

For my youngest niece any place she sees some animals, live or otherwise, is a zoo. The other day I took them to a park and she saw these animal sculptures and she wanted to go and visit them. She called the whole area as zoo. And I had to take them again to the same ‘zoo park’ as she calls it. She wanted to go and pet the lion and sit on the horse. And started to make a fuss when I told her that it is not allowed to walk on the grass. So I had to tell her that these animals might bite her if she went anywhere near them 😉 I think she believed it even though she didn’t really want to.

Why Children’s Drawings Matter

I think I understand this. That is why I have got some drawings of my first niece attached to my room doors.

Too much to handle, sometimes

When I had been home for Diwali holidays, I had some fun times with my nieces. Especially my second niece (almost 4 years), who is a terror of our household. She is smart, funny and unmanageable. One day, she was not letting her sister do her homework and was pestering her, so I decided to take her out for a drive. Since it was raining cats and dogs and had gotten pretty cold outside, I asked her to wear a jacket. The one she wore was a little large for her size…and she was fully covered in it. (She did look a little funny 🙂 but couldn’t let her know otherwise she wouldnt wear that) She also had a monkey cap (aka balaclava) on. Once she was ready, she checked herself in the mirror and asked , if she looked too much like a monkey. I was holding my laughter and told her that she looked just fine and if she wants a drive, she should hurry. When we parked and started walking around the shops she started talking non-stop (which is her usual mode nowadays) and a couple of people passing by saw her and smiled at her. She looked at a few and then looked at me and said, ‘those people are laughing at me , arent they ? I do look like a monkey…dont I’ I told her that it is just her  imagination and to take her mind out of her attire, took her to a near by shop for her to choose a chocolate of her choice. And she ended up taking two Dairy Milk chocolates and refused to share it with me. Guess she wanted to make up for her ordeal related to her attire.

Whispering willow

My second niece (age : almost 4) is the terror of our house hold. She and I have our regular fights (including fists too) from time to time. She says the atrocious things, which at times is hilarious and sometimes leads to face palms. So there I was cooking something, my sister in law (her mom), cutting vegetables and my sister, doing something in the dining room (just outside the kitchen). She came to me and told that she had a secret to tell me. I am wary of her doing that because she just comes very close to the ears and screams to her full capacity. That really irritates me so I was a little hesitant. She promised that she really had something to say to me. When I bent, she whispered that I looked like an eli (eli in Tamil means Rat, check the google translate on how its pronounced). I was a little offended. Do I really look like that ? I am the biggest and the meanest looking of the lot (among the ladies in the house hold at least) and was wondering why she said that, a little sad at her statement.

For her whispering means saying something in the other’s ears. It doesn’t have to do anything with the volume 😛 So obviously, anyone close to her can hear her. She, then went to her mom and ‘whispered’ that she looked like an elephant (she obviously thought that, ‘that’ rhymed ! 🙄 ) And obviously , that made me feel a little better. At least I am not an elephant. But my sister in law wasn’t too happy about her daughter’s observation and was literally a little bit taken back! Then she went to my sister and whispered that she looked like a erumai (that means buffalo…she really was in the mood for rhyming words). Now this put both my sister in law and myself in a way better mood than when my niece left us with her observations. My sister was not so nice about hearing it and told my niece to run away if she really wanted to avoid being attacked by a buffalo. And that is all it took all of us to burst out laughing. She came, she ‘whispered’ and she went her merry way, leaving us elders perplexed.
