Missing photographs

In the early days of my blogging in WP, I had used high res photographs which took up all of my free space. I ended up buying 10GB for 20$ a year to keep them up. I don’t think that to be a wise option anymore. So I stopped the renewal this year and have deleted those (as much as I could) photographs from my media library in order to allow me to upload low-res photographs. That means there would be some very old posts that would have missing photographs in them. I might have to do some cleanup of those posts, but I don’t have the time and energy at this moment to do it. I might do some over the long Christmas break if I am inclined to do so.

I am also trying to take a backup of this website. I have been here since 2013 and there are so many posts to download. I started the download yesterday and I am sure it will take me another whole day and a half to get that done. Changes are imminent, but when is the question. Until then, I am going to take one day at a time and do what I can do.

Prompts and Challenges

This was a post that I had published the same day last year. I thought why not post it again. There have been some changes, like Sue’s weekly word challenge hasn’t been active for a while, Michelle’s Weekly Pet Challenge is on a break, Steve’s musicology has changed a bit but otherwise things are still on, I guess 🙂
There are a couple more which I am currently participating or that I know of. They are
c) Julie’s Travel Photo of the week (this is on a break I guess for now)
If you are looking for challenges, you can check these out and join the fun. Happy Blogging 🙂

I did have a list of the Photography related Challenges listed down so that when I feel like it I can participate. But didn’t think that posting it might actually help anyone because I am as much a newbie to this as are the others. But then when Ger asked me for the list yesterday I thought, irrespective of whether others already knew about it or not, it may help someone if I did publish them. So here is a list of prompts/challenges which I know of, even though I take part only in two photography challenges per week (as much as my work can let me do it) and two writing prompts (just for fun)

Photography:
Cee has a couple of photography challenges. They are Odd Ball Challenge, B & W Challenge, Fun Foto Challenge and Which Way Challenge. You can check them out on her site. There are separate menu links for the same.
If you like playing with your photographs and doing editing and stuff like that, then Robyn’s One Four Challenge might be interesting.
You might like Michelle’s Weekly Pet Challenge, if you like taking photos of your pet(s).
Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness is a good one, if you like playing with your photographs, be it editing, or if you frequently like taking or editing your photographs in monochrome.

Sue does her weekly word based photography challenge, which is almost similar to Daily Posts’s Weekly Photography Challenge.

Writing:

If you wanna take part in some writing Challenges or prompts, you should check out Linda’s SoCS, hosted every Saturday (you will get your prompt by Friday evening) and JustJoJan, for the month of January only. ( I am gonna tag this post for the prompt )
If you like writing short fiction based on a photograph, then you can check out Al’s Sunday Photo Fiction. A similar prompt is done by RocNaNo using their Wordless Wednesday photographs.
You can also share your world with Cee’s Share Your World weekly questions.

Music:
The only one Music related prompt that I take part and I currently know of is Steve’s Cosmic Musicology. Its fun and I am yet to do my post for this week’s questions. If you listen to music and have a good collection of songs in your playlist, you might wanna give this a try.

And there is a whole lot more and you can find them here.
For people who like literature, you might wanna check out this site called Interesting Literature.
Hope you find some which might interest you and if you know of any other cool prompts, please do let me know.
Just one tip: Make sure you ‘tag’ your posts with the corresponding prompts as is given in their descriptions and to add the correct pingback so that it will be easily visible to others too.
Happy Blogging & Sharing.

SoCS: Which excuse would you use?

As soon as I read the word, I remembered a photograph of a poster my brother had in his office which has a list of excuses that we can use. Here is that one. I think I will just go with it and not write anything this time. My excuse: ‘I am just being lazy‘ 😛

SoCS: Switch on that damn indicator

Indicator – There is a reason that the vehicles have them but out here hardly anybody uses it. I freaking hate it when people don’t switch on their indicators before making a right turn. How much work is that going to be. It should be part of the muscle memory just like switching a gear for godsake. Especially the autorickshaws here, they sort of own the road. They twist and turn and drive in any direction they want. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed with an urge to nick their vehicle just like that, especially when they turn and almost get very close to my vehicle just because I didn’t have a clue as to what they were going to do without that damn indicator. And the other worse part is when they don’t switch it off after they have turned. When will these people learn? I will end this post with one more entry. Mickey Mouse dons a new avatar. Yup. He and his folks are now in India in a brand new avatar. This new avatar was revealed on Mickey’s birthday , if I am not wrong. And guess what! He is riding an autorickshaw. Here have a look. All is well…

Post for this week’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt.

This week’s Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “in-” Find a word that begins with the prefix “in” or use the word itself anywhere in your post. Easy!

SoCS: Memory Mesh

Memories…I always thought my blogs and my posts are my Pensieve. For people who don’t follow Harry Potter series, it is a sort of a stone bowl, big in size which is used to store memories for reviewing it later or to just clear your mind of those to be able to see things fresh. Sometimes our memory of some thing might makes us a little prejudiced doesn’t ? And I used to associate Pensieve with a hard disk, you know, where we can store the files only to retrieve them back when it is required. The concept for both is the same. Dont waste space on your current disk with old one data unless and otherwise they are required for your day to day activities. Rather retrieve / recall them as and when required. And my blogs are also the same way. Especially with the travels, I tend to forget the details of it, like what was good in that place, how I enjoyed, what funny thing happened. I don’t have a very long memory. So I decided to pen them down and have it recorded both in photographs and in text so that I can go back to them whenever I feel. And its amazing about how much data our brain can store which we call it as memory and how much can be retrieved from it, only if we try to do that. I don’t put too much effort into recalling stuff. If it is on the top of my mind, then fine. I don’t dig deep. I might be lost in the abyss. That leads me to another thing, nostalgia. I am not a nostalgic person, especially with respect to my school or college days. I don’t want to go back to my college or my school and look at those buildings and refresh my memories of how those times were. I would rather remember some very old song which I used to sing and start singing about them. And I do have quite a lot of songs memorized. Because there was a time I used to sing a lot every day in school and colleges, just for fun. And my dad asked me to write them down and remember them by heart if I wanted to go beyond my la la la for the songs. Apart from 3-4 diaries of songs, I can recall quite a lot of them, mostly hindi and tamil songs even now. Do you think that we can edit memories in such a way so that we only remember what we want to remember ? just like in Inception ? DiCaprio says something like that isn’t. I believe we can. I haven’t tried it out. But logically if the memories are just bits and bytes that gets stored in the human computer called the brain, then it should be possible. Isn’t ? But if I have to picture the way our memories are stored, I think it would look like a mesh, wouldn’t it?  And one final thought about  memories and I will end this, because I think I can go on and on. I just remembered the song by One Direction, Midnight Memories. Until the recent years, I have never been awake after 10 pm. And so I don’t have many midnight memories. But the one I have of recent years is the most fun one. I was treating my friends for dinner and then my close friend suddenly had this urge to go on a long drive (might have been the influence of the 3 drinks she had) and we all agreed and we went to have icecream first at 11 pm and then went on for a long drive in Mysore Road to have a cup of coffee in a Coffee Day at 2 am and then drove back and reached home by 4 am. It was fun.
