+1

Dope music! I wanted some peppy number for the day and this was it. I looked up the YouTube video and immediately decided to stick with the Sound Cloud version. The video was so ridiculous, I just couldn’t handle it.

I am a tourist.

The theme for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday is ‘Summer’. Summer is almost over for us Indians. The peak of it is in May and the only thing that I associate with summer is ‘vacation‘. For 4 years, I have managed to go somewhere for my two week vacation and enjoy myself. I hope it continues going forward. My song for this week is something related to vacation. It is called ‘You are a Tourist’ by Death Cab for Cutie. This is another song that I got from my friend’s (alternative songs) playlist. It is a very simple one, but tells you how a lot of us feel from time to time, the feeling to just get away even if it is for a short while.

Lyrics from MetroLyrics

This fire grows higher
This fire grows higher
This fire grows higher
This fire grows higher

When there’s a burning in your heart
An endless yearning in your heart
Build it bigger than the sun
Let it grow, let it grow
When there’s a burning in your heart
Don’t be alarmed

This fire grows higher

When there’s a doubt within your mind
Because you’re thinking all the time
Framing rights into wrongs
Move along, move along
When there’s a doubt within your mind

When there’s a burning in your heart
And you think it’ll burst apart
Oh there’s nothing to fear
Save the tears, save the tears
When there’s a burning in your heart

And if you feel just like a tourist
In the city you were born
Then it’s time to go
And define your destination
There’s so many different places to call home
Cause when you find yourself the villain
In the story you have written
It’s plain to see
That sometimes the best intentions
Are in need of redemption
Would you agree?
If so please show me

This fire grows higher
When there’s a burning in your heart

Crossfire

We all know how it feels to be caught in a crossfire. One time or the other we have been there. Even when we didn’t know about it, we have been there. This is one which I stumbled upon in SoundCloud and it immediately caught my ears 😉 And the lyrics are as always amazing.
Check out Stephen’s Crossfire.

Lyrics from MusixMatch

He’d trade his guns for love
But he’s caught in the crossfire
And he keeps wakin’ up
But it’s not to the sound of birds
The tyranny
The violent streets
Deprived
Of all that we’re blessed with
And we can’t get enough, no
Heaven if you sent us down
So we could build a playground
For the sinners
To play as saints
You’d be so proud of what we made
I hope you got some beds around
Cause’ you’re the only refuge now
For every mother
Every child
Every brother
That’s caught in the crossfire
That’s caught in the crossfire
I’d trade my luck to know
Why he’s caught in the crossfire
And I’m here wakin’ up
To the sun and the sound of birds
Society’s anxiety
Deprived
Of all that we’re blessed with
We just can’t get enough, no
Heaven if you sent us down
So we could build a playground
For the sinners
To play as saints
You’d be so proud of what we made
I hope you got some beds around
Cause’ you’re the only refuge now
For every mother
Every child
Every brother
That’s caught in the crossfire
That’s caught in the crossfire
Can I trust what I’m given
When faith still needs a gun
Whose ammunition
Justifies the wrong?
And I can’t see
From the backseat
So I’m asking from above:
Can I trust what I’m given
Even when it cuts?
So heaven if you sent us down
So we could build a playground
For the sinners
To play as saints
You’d be so proud of what we made
I hope you got some beds around
Cause’ you’re the only refuge now
For every mother
And every child
Every brother
That’s caught in the crossfire
That’s caught in the crossfire
Who’s caught in the crossfire
Who’s caught on the crossfire baby, baby
Who’s caught on the cross–.

One or the other

One of my favorite songs because I fell in love with the lyrics when I first heard it. Since I keep listening to new songs on YouTube, other music blog posts or Soundcloud, I don’t usually remember the source. There are times when some song comes along at the very appropriate time and you are hearing almost the same words that run through your mind. The singer’s voice is so soft and full of emotions that it pulls you in.

Singer/Band: Lauv (or Ari Jeff)

Lyrics from MetroLyrics

Like a spotlight the water hits me
Ran it extra cold to shake the words from my mouth
Though I know that no one’s listening
I nervously rehearsed for when you’re around
And I keep waiting like you might change my mind

Who wrote the book on goodbye?
There’s never been a way to make this easy
When there’s nothing quite wrong but it don’t feel right
Either your head or your heart, you set the other on fire

Back and forth now I’m feelin’ guilty
Cause I just can’t stop this pendulum in my head
Though I know that our time is ending
I’d rather lay forever right in this bed

And I keep waiting like, you might change my mind
Give me one more night

Who wrote the book on goodbye?
There’s never been a way to make this easy
When there’s nothing quite wrong but it don’t feel right
Either your head or your heart, you set the other on fire

No one knows, knows, knows. No one knows, knows, knows.

We fell from the peak
And the stars, they broke their code
I’m trying to forget
How I landed on this road
I’m caught in between
What I wish and what I know
When they say that you just know

Who wrote the book on goodbye?
There’s never been a way to make this easy
When there’s nothing quite wrong but it don’t feel right
Either your head or your heart, you set the other on fire

No one knows, knows, knows. No one knows, knows, knows.

You set the other on fire. You set the other on fire.
