Daily Prompt: Greatest Gift

What is the greatest gift someone could give you?

When I saw this prompt, my first thought was “Time” which sounds very cliched but is very accurate. My second thought was “why can’t it be diamonds 😉 > ” but I don’t like diamonds, so that is out of the question. It also got me thinking about what I would love to get as a gift other than time? I shuffled through my recent memories and realized that the “thoughtfulness” of someone reaching out to me even if they had significantly less time to do so was something I really appreciated.

We live in a very busy world and getting together when each of us has our own lives that come with their own trials and tribulations makes it very difficult to keep in touch. It is very ironic that the better the technology the harder sometimes it is to keep in touch and stay in touch. Also when we grow older and meet more people, our acquaintances and friends circle might grow, if not ours then that of our friends and family members. So when they reach out to you because they had a sudden thought about you makes it even more precious. I am glad that I am still in their thoughts from time to time and I will take it as the greatest gift for now.

On and Off for a while

We recently moved home to a new place which feels a lot bigger than the tiny studio apartment, even though it is just a one bedroom flat. And we do not have an internet connection at this new place as of yet. We are managing with mobile data and a temporary WiFi connection which isn’t always great but at least it helps us with our day to day activities to the most extent. So I might be on and off for a while, even though I try to keep up with my regular posts through my mobile, which isn’t always my preferred mode of blogging.

One would assume that living in a studio flat, with very less space, you wouldn’t have much to own and so the move should be a breeze. But we found that to be incorrect 😉 Since we rent only furnished flats, we were able to complete the actual move from place A to place B which includes the moving of all the items from a second storey flat to the van + transport of 20 mins + moving the items from the van to the car park and then from the car park to the flat all in about 2 hours. Which is pretty incredible I should say and it felt like I have worked out enough for a week at least. Even though the actual move just took two hours, the preparation for the move took 2 days and the post-move installations took 2 days. So you can imagine the amount of stuff we had to move.

For almost a week it is all we have been doing and now almost after a week, we rest easy. The new place now looks and feel like a home with things in their places and places not crammed with boxes. It does feel like a luxury, with all those extra space and central heating and hot water at the turn of a tap 😉 We do have a very good view of the city from out here but unfortunately, there are some building works going on and so the scaffolding is up which means the view is blocked. It is enjoyable none the less. Some of my regular habits have taken a hit during these holidays and I have to work on getting back on track and that includes blogging 😉

Excuses, Excuses

“If only I had more time on my hand”. I have lost count of how many times I have used that excuse last week for not doing something that had to be done but didn’t end up doing it because I got my priorities mixed up and did something else instead. I hope that I don’t end up burning midnight oil at work, just because I was bored of the project and was slacking because I didn’t feel like working on it. Thank God I am an individual contributor and I still have quite some time left on my hands to get things done. I might have to stop that binge watching I have been doing on a regular basis (I finished Jesse Stone last week and also the new season of Endeavor) and get my work done instead. Well, I am off to work then.

Post for this week’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “if/then.” Begin your post with the word “If.” For bonus points, end your post with a phrase containing the word “then.” Enjoy!

In the end

For this week’s song lyric Sunday, I am going to go with a rock song of Linkin Park. I am not a huge fan of rock genre, but from time to time I do like a song or an album. And one of my favorite bands is Linkin Park. I love this song for its lyrics. I cannot sing the rap part of it but I appreciate the words.

Lyrics from A-Z Lyrics.

In The End

It starts with
One thing I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
To explain in due time
All I know
Time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
It’s so unreal
Didn’t look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Trying to hold on but didn’t even know
I wasted it all just to watch you goI kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when…

I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

One thing, I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
To remind myself how
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I’m surprised it got so (far)
Things aren’t the way they were before
You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me
In the end

You kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when…

I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

I’ve put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There’s only one thing you should know
I’ve put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There’s only one thing you should know

I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

Posting it for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday.
